Since 2006, Dancing on the Edge, based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, has been presenting and promoting contemporary dance and theatre artists and groups from the Middle East and North Africa.
In addition to a biennial festival in various Dutch cities, Dancing on the Edge also organises performance tours, training programs, workshops, artistic residencies, co-productions, cultural education programs, film screenings, symposia, debates and other activities throughout the year. These activities take place both in the Netherlands and in the region itself.
Dancing on the Edge occupies a unique position in the field, as it provides both a platform and an incentive for cultural exchange and collaboration.
The main event in the Netherlands, which takes place in 5 big cities and involves international artists.
Dancing on the Edge Festival - comprising an extensive fringe program alongside the performances that includes debates, films, music, network meetings and cultural education projects -provides a wealth of art and culture from the Middle East and North Africa.
Dancing on the Edge provides a platform for the art forms produced by the new generation of artists.
This generation of dance and theatre artists from the MENA region creates original, spirited and creative work. With their contemporary themes, these performances are of interest to audiences worldwide. These audiences comprise both regular dance and theatre-lovers and new spectators who feel an affinity with the region through personal interest or connections.

• 9,000 visitors expected in 2011 (Audience growth: 2009: 8003 people (2.3 times the
number in 2007) 2007: 3467 visitors (a growth of 130%)
• Continued growth in the online community. In 2011, attention will focus on online
marketing, both at national and international level
• Forty international artists from very diverse backgrounds. Over the years, we have
had artists from Morocco, Lebanon, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Turkey, Tunisia and the
Netherlands.
• 75 stage events; theatre and dance performances, music performances, visual art exhibitions, film screenings, network and expert meetings, and debates
• Dancing on the Edge is receiving growing attention from the press and media, both in the Netherlands and internationally: in all the dailies, in all the cultural listings and in various magazines
