Waiting Forbidden (2009)

Waiting Forbidden | Le Grand Cru(NL) & Al Balad Theatre (Jordan) & El Funoun (Palestine) & Grand Theatre Groningen (NL)

Waiting Forbidden is about a sense of displacement, fear and resistance - a production about being Palestinian and being of Palestinian descent. It is about human beings connecting and struggling with their own relationship to oppression - a mental labyrinth of sixty years of violence in a place where nothing seems innocent any more, and where only time moves forward. The performance was inspired by the stories of the dancers and the work of Mona Hatoum, a well-known visual artist of Palestinian descent. In her work, home is a mythical location; a place charged with loss and violence.
Waiting Forbidden was part of the educational program of the Dancing on the Edge Festival 2009 and was further performed in Ramallah and Amman.
Dancing on the Edge is grateful that the Dutch National Ballet donated a dance floor to Al Balad during this production.
