Different organizations collaborate on these sessions, including Kosmopolis Rotterdam/Utrecht, Eutopia, University of Utrecht, Club MC, and many more.

Kosmopolis Rotterdam organizes a dinner and an introduction to the Young Choreographers Evening on Friday 16 December. Short introductions of the artists will be the starting point for a workshop on change, development and identity, while eating a delicious meal. Khaled BenGhrib and Loren Palmer | For advanced/professional level dancers
26 & 27 November | Amsterdam - Henny Jurriëns Foundation
Khalid Benghrib (Morocco) and Loren Palmer (New Zealand) are the directors and choreographers of the Cie 2K_Far, based in Casablanca, Morocco. Their works have been shown throughout Europe, the Middle East and in the United States. In this workshop they will work with the dancers on their unique style of movement and composition. Artists’ Meeting Amsterdam and The Hague
Two practice-based sessions will be held between artists that perform in the Dancing on the Edge Festival 2011 and a number of Dutch or Dutch-based artists. They will work together and discuss artistic processes, the relationship with the audience, and how that influences the choices that one makes. The Amsterdam session is organised in collaboration with Suzy Blok/Dansmakers and Marijke Hoogenboom/Amsterdam School of the Arts. The session in The Hague is organised together with Leo Spreksel/Korzo.
Network Meeting for Programmers
Dancing on the Edge strives to increase the visibility and performance opportunities of artists from the region. Theater and festival programmers are invited to discuss different possibilities during these meetings. Programmers interested in attending should contact the organization.
Network Meeting Club MC
Club Magreb Charki organizes a network meeting combined with the performance The Smala B.B. and, an after talk with the choreographer Khalid BenGhrib and other guests on Friday the 9th in Amsterdam. Club Maghreb Charki furthers international cooperation by organizing network meetings in the Netherlands. The purpose is to stimulate partnerships in a setting where people can meet and exchange ideas on projects based on three themes: sustainable cooperation, arts & culture, and economy.
Theatre Studies/University of Utrecht
Students of the master Theatre Studies of the University of Utrecht will participate in different ways in the festival. They will, for instance, write reviews of performances of the festival under the guidance of cultural web magazine 8Weekly, which will be published online. In addition to the lecture Dancing Home held at the University of Utrecht , students will analyze Atefeh Therani’s Othello in class.
Education
Morocco Moves
Linked to the festival is a comprehensive educational program for students of VMBO, HAVO and VWO called Morocco Moves. It brings young people into contact with contemporary dance and theater from the Middle East and North Africa and the rich cultural heritage of this area in general. The choreographers of the SMALA BB, Khalid BenGhrib and Loren Palmer, will give workshops at the schools as well as special performances for the students.
Exchange
Meeting EU Project
Dancing on the Edge is a main partner in a Euro-Arab Multidisciplinary Cultural Exchange program. It seeks to enhance the skills of Egyptian and Arab artists in a number of areas including choreography, directing (theatre plays), multi-media, stage lighting design etc. The program includes workshops, residencies, productions, touring and festivals in multimedia and performing arts.
Revolutionary Bodies Project
Dancing on the Edge is a partner in an international multimedia research project with artists and organizations from Tunisia, Egypt, France, The Netherlands, Spain and Italy, called Revolutionary Bodies. This project explores the transformation processes in performance art with a focus on the body as an instrument of resistance.
The partners of the project are Carovana S.M.I. (project coordinator-Italy), L’Animal a l'esquena (Spain), La Ferme du Buisson (France), La Compagnie de Soi (France), Centre of Contemporary Culture Darb 1718 (Egypt), Dream City Festival (Tunisia).
Revolutionary Bodies is supported by the European Cultural Foundation.
Partner Events
Festival De Balie: THE ART OF REVOLUTION II (9-11 December 2011)
In the second week of December De Balie together with Neil van der Linden presents, in collaboration with Dancing on the Edge, a variety of cutting edge contemporary arts from the Middle East. During the festival an eclectic mix of theater, dance, video art, Arabic electro, poetry, lectures, debates and more will be offered.
Artists from Tunisia to Iran will gather in De Balie to present and discus their work and their thoughts on the political turmoil in the Middle East one year after the Tunisian revolution. What is the role of arts and culture with regard to the revolutionary force that is going through the region? The power of art will be celebrated, and those who lost their lives in a struggle for an open and just society will be commemorated. For more information see: www.debalie.nl.
Prince Claus Fund
Artists from the Dancing on the Edge festival will participate in a special 2-day program of the Prince Claus Fund connected to their annual award ceremony. At the Prince Claus Awards Gala, individuals and organizations that make a significant contribution to culture and development are honoured.
PUNCH!
PUNCH! is a festival for new dance talent, organized by Dansmakers Amsterdam. During PUNCH!, highlights from the season are shown as well as new works of young choreographers and the latest selection of European choreographers from the Aerowaves network. PUNCH! takes place between 9 and 14 December in cooperation with Paradiso, Theater Bellevue, Melkweg Theater, the Henny Jurriëns Foundation, and Dancing on the Edge.
