SNEAK PREVIEW (WORK IN PROGRESS), MOUNA LAROUSSI AND TAMAR SHAHINIAN (NL) / DANSMAKERS AMSTERDAM
Free Entrance
Out of curiosity, Mouna Laroussi en Tamar Shahinian, two Amsterdam based choreographers with roots in the region, did artistic anthropological field research into the worlds of 21 women wearing the niqab in Casablanca. While entering welcoming houses, sharing food , and smelling unusual smells, they also entered an unknown world. They sneaked in and out. Seized with emotions they tried to uncover their own subjectivity by discovering the women’s stories.
Would you like to have a sneak too? You are most welcome to join Mouna and Tamar at the presentation of their current work in progress "Sneak Preview", a dance documentary in development. Sneak Preview is also part of PUNCH! a festival for new dance talent organized by Dansmakers Amsterdam. See the website for more information.
Mouna Laroussi is from a Moroccan and Dutch background and is at home in many dance styles –oriental dance, jazz, contemporary dance, urban and salsa. In her work as choreographer, teacher and dancer she fuses these styles into crossovers.
She worked for three years as artistic leader and choreographer of the well-known Dutch singer Hind, with whom she then toured in The Netherlands and abroad. She has now established her own company, Mouna Dance Productions, and continues to work as a dancer with Danstheater Aya as well as in projects such as in Casadam in Casablanca and Dance Your Way in London.
Tamar Shahinian of Armenian/Palestinian origin, lived in Kuwait for 10 years before moving to the Netherlands. She graduated from the Fontys Dance Academy in Tilburg and has danced with the International Dance Theater, Danstheater AYA and in other productions as both a dancer and an actress. In 2009 she performed during the Dancing on the Edge Festival in Le Grand Cru/Al Balad production Waiting Forbidden.
