Othello - Atefeh Tehrani

Event: Othello - Atefeh Tehrani
Date: 10-Dec-2011
Time: 20:30 - 21:45
Location: Theater Frascati | Amsterdam

Passionately performed by a cast of Iranian theater artists in a choreographic work by Atefeh Tehrani, Shakespeare’s Othello is presented in a way rarely seen. While remaining faithful to the original story with its elements of love, envy and conspiracy, the intensely physical and dramatic interpretations are considered daring and controversial in Iran.

For this piece, Tehrani won the International Association of Theater Critics Best Director Award for the play at the Fajr International Theater Festival in early 2010 in Teheran. Othello has previously been performed in Teheran, Krakow and Hamburg.

Atefeh Tehrani was a member of the group Black Narcissus for 10 years. The group worked under the supervision of Hamed Mohammad Taheri, who introduced contemporary physical theater to Iranian artists. She recently established her own troupe of theater artists, The Indra Theatre Group. On the invitation of Dancing on the Edge, Tehrani was in the fall of 2011 an ‘artist en passant’ at the International Choreographic Arts Centre in Amsterdam.
