Meeting Theater and Dance Professionals
A group of Dutch and Middle-Eastern dancers, choreographers and theatre makers will attend festival performances and discuss their artistic vision and ambition. Questions that may be raised are: what are the similarities and differences in their work? Why and how do social issues influence the production process? To what extent does cultural background play a role in telling a story or in the artistic choices made?
The moderator of the (private) meeting is Marijke Hoogenboom, lecturer in Arts Practice and Artistic Development at the Amsterdam School of the Arts.
Kick-off Meeting of Refl-Action Program during Dancing on the Edge
Refl-Action is a program funded by the Anna Lindh Foundation, involving organisations and individuals from Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, the Netherlands, Italy and other Euro-Mediterranean countries. It seeks to develop a more interactive, cross-cultural dialogue between dancers, dance schools, conservatories, companies and organisations, on dance pedagogy and dance styles in the region, and to enhance understanding of how, in a variety of cultural contexts, contemporary dance is learnt, understood and performed. It also will seek to create improved opportunities for contemporary dance education within the Arab world and to develop understanding of what it means to be a woman learning, teaching, performing or creating dance in the Middle East.
Zina & Female Economy
Zina – an Art and Culture Platform and a ‘love army’ of collectors of stories from Eastern and Western cultures – and Female Economy are both coming to festival performances with a group of (migrant) women. Female Economy has put together a local jury for the Theatre Festival, comprising twelve women from different cultures and living in different districts of Amsterdam, who will attend three theatre performances a month. Because of their interest in productions created outside the language area of the Netherlands, the local jury will also be visiting Dancing on the Edge, as an inspiring exception.
