Man is Man, is an adaptation of the piece of the same name originally written by Bertolt Brecht. This version is written and directed by the Iranian director Reza Gouran, who has made it into a humoristic theatre piece about the influence of war on the life of normal people. The piece takes place in Basra during the Iraq-American war, but concerns various wars that have taken place between the USA, Western countries and religious fundamentalists in Islamic countries.

Reza Gouran
Reza Gouran is one of the most promising theatre directors in Iran. He works for the professional State theatre in Tehran. He has created various stage productions, films and works for television. His most recent piece was a version of Garcia Lorca’s Yerma which won several prizes. The work of Gouran is characterised by simple but strong images. The set for Man is Man was designed by the Iranian Siamak Ehsaei and the assistant director of the piece is Noureddin Heidari Maeer. The piece is performed in English by Dutch actors, and is co-produced by Het Lab (see www.hetlabutrecht.nl) and de Toneelmakerij.
