Since the successful festival in December 2009 where we presented 60 performances in 5 Dutch cities, the Dancing on the Edge organization has been busy with a number of projects. These include training, symposiums, research and artistic residencies partly funded by both the European Commission and the Anna Lindh Foundation.

The next festival is planned for December 2011. A call for entries will be publicized in the fall, but interested artists can contact us about their pieces.

Gastoptreden Taher Najib

De Palestijnse toneelschrijver en acteur Taher Najib (Israel/Palestina) staat op het festival met de voorstelling In Spitting Distance. Hij zal als gastspreker aanwezig zijn bij het vak Inleiding Antropologie van het Midden-Oosten, Universiteit van Amsterdam.

SNDO Lunch Lecture Series – The Political Body: Integrating Message and Movement

Studenten van SNDO (School voor Nieuwe Dans Ontwikkeling) komen van over de hele wereld, inclusief het Midden-Oosten. In deze paneldiscussie zullen zij in gesprek gaan met artiesten van het festival over onderwerpen, zoals hoe dans en het lichaam gebruikt kunnen worden om politieke en sociale kwesties aan de orde te stellen.

Why Theatre? Lezing Nicolas Rowe

Nicolas Rowe zal in Utrecht een lezing houden over dans in de Palestijnse gebieden met als titel: ‘Avoiding Victim Art: negotiating sympathy and contempt when presenting dance from a traumatized community’.
Rowe is docent dansstudies aan de Universiteit van Auckland, Nieuw-Zeeland.
Van 2000 tot 2008 verbleef hij in de Palestijnse gebieden, waar hij werkte aan dansprojecten met lokale artiesten, groepen en gemeenschapscentra. Rowe zal tevens bij de avondvoorstelling Waiting Forbidden in Theater Kikker het nagesprek leiden.
De lezing wordt gehouden in het kader van de serie Why Theatre? georganiseerd door de leerstoelgroep Theaterwetenschap van de Universiteit Utrecht in samenwerking met Dancing on the Edge. Aanmelden via whytheatre@theatrestudies.nl.

The students from the SNDO (School for New Dance Development) come from many parts of the world, including the Middle East. In this panel discussion they will discuss with artists from the festival subjects relating to using dance and the body to deal with political/societal issues.
