Since the successful festival in December 2009 where we presented 60 performances in 5 Dutch cities, the Dancing on the Edge organization has been busy with a number of projects. These include training, symposiums, research and artistic residencies partly funded by both the European Commission and the Anna Lindh Foundation.

The next festival is planned for December 2011. A call for entries will be publicized in the fall, but interested artists can contact us about their pieces.

SNDO Lunch Lecture Series – The Political Body: Integrating Message and Movement

Studenten van SNDO (School voor Nieuwe Dans Ontwikkeling) komen van over de hele wereld, inclusief het Midden-Oosten. In deze paneldiscussie zullen zij in gesprek gaan met artiesten van het festival over onderwerpen, zoals hoe dans en het lichaam gebruikt kunnen worden om politieke en sociale kwesties aan de orde te stellen.

Guest Lecture Taher Najib

Palestinian playwright and actor Taher Najib will be giving the dramatic reading In Spitting Distance during the festival. He will be a guest during the course Introduction to Anthropology of the Middle-East, at the University of Amsterdam.

Why Theatre? Lecture Nicolas Rowe

Nicolas Rowe will give a lecture in Utrecht on dance in the Palestinian territories with the title: ‘Avoiding Victim Art: negotiating sympathy and contempt when presenting dance from a traumatized community’.
Rowe is a lecturer in dance studies at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. From 2000 to 2008, he was living in the Palestinian Territories, where he worked on dance projects with local artists, groups and community centres. Rowe will also be leading the after-performance talk at the evening performance of Waiting Forbidden in Theater Kikker.
The lecture is held as part of the Why Theatre? series, organised by the Theatre Science chair group of Utrecht University, in collaboration with Dancing on the Edge. Reservations via whytheatre@theatrestudies.nl.
