Since the successful festival in December 2009 where we presented 60 performances in 5 Dutch cities, the Dancing on the Edge organization has been busy with a number of projects. These include training, symposiums, research and artistic residencies partly funded by both the European Commission and the Anna Lindh Foundation.

The next festival is planned for December 2011. A call for entries will be publicized in the fall, but interested artists can contact us about their pieces.

Organisation

Artistic Director: Gary Feingold
Gary Feingold grew up in Canada and the United States. He studied foreign languages, political science, and ballet at the University of California at Santa Cruz and went on to dance professionally in a number of companies in various countries. He has lived in the Netherlands since 1991. Feingold is the founding director of the Dancing on the Edge Festival for theater and dance from the Middle East, and of the Henny Jurriëns Foundation (www.hjs.nl) , the largest open-professional dance studio in the country. He is coordinator of Danshuis Amsterdam (www.danshuis.nl) , a studio-theatre complex which will open in 2012. Feingold is a member of the National Arts Council Dance Commission and the Amsterdam Prize Jury. He is active in community projects, being a member of the Baarsjes Social Cohesion Group, and has given English classes in a local Mosque. Also active as an entrepreneur, Feingold is the owner of Gary’s Deli (www.garysdeli.nl) in the Oud-West district of Amsterdam.

Business Director:Marta Rozsa
Marta Rozsa is the director of Foreign Art Affairs (www.foreignartaffairs.com), a bureau specialized in the management and production of international cultural projects. Before embarking on her cultural career, Rozsa was a management-, internet- en multimedia consultant in the business world. Since then she has worked as business manager for the Tangomagia Festival, Theater Group Het Syndicaat and the Theatre Embassy. Her activities include a project for SICA in honoring the 50th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution. She is currently business manager of the Liteside Festival (www.liteside.nl and the Tolhuistuinen www.tolhuistuinfestival.nl project.

Program manager: Natasja van ‘t Westende
Natasja van ‘t Westende studied Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology and did research in Sudan concerning music, gender, and Islam. She has also worked for War Child in Sudan, where she gave trainings and carried out cultural and educational projects. She is also involved in the field of documentary filmmaking. She has carried out projects concerning research of archive material (Museum voor Volkenkunde Leiden), filming, and co-organizing a film festival (Beeld voor Beeld).

Project Manager Culture Education Program: Noortje Bijvoets
Noortje Bijvoets was a professional dancer and worked during her career with many known choreographers. As co-director of Le Grand Cru she has gained much international and intercultural experience in performing, creating and setting up cultural educational programs in many countries. She also coordinated and implemented the culture educational program of the Dancing on the Edge Festival 2007.
