These include training, symposiums, research and artistic residencies partly funded by both the European Commission and the Anna Lindh Foundation.

Second edition of the Dancing on the Edge Festival -theatre and dance from the Middle East- to be held in 5 Dutch cities in December 2009

Following the successful first edition in December 2007, a second edition of the Dancing on the Edge Festival will take place in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Groningen, The Hague and Utrecht (29 November – 13 December 2009).

Dance, theatre and music performances from the Middle East
More than 40 performing artists from Egypt, Palestine, Iran, Lebanon, Israel, Morocco, Iraq and Jordan will participate in the festival. Furthermore, a number of artistic collaborations and international co-productions with Dutch choreographers, musicians, and dancers will be premiered at the festival.

Art born out of urgency
The artists invited have created contemporary, personal and ‘engaged’ pieces – works that are influenced by and reflect upon issues relevant to their lives and regions. While the artists’ styles are extremely diverse, there is a common urgency in their work that makes the pieces exciting and relevant to audiences in the Middle East and here.

Highlight on female choreographers and performers
With many pieces in the festival created and/or performed by women, female artists play a major role in both the performances and the fringe programme.

Extensive side programme
Film, lectures, debates, network meetings, music, workshops, education for schools, master classes, presentations and food will all be part of the festival’s fringe programme.
